All students who have a sincere interest in at least one of the arts (music, drama, dance, visual and literary arts) and have a good academic history are welcome to apply at Calgary Arts Academy.
Application Process
Note that the application process can also be found in the parent handbook.
1. Tour of the School
- Make an appointment through the school office for a school tour. The school's phone number is (403) 532-3020.
2. Registration
- Complete the registration form and submit to the office, in person or to fax number (403) 217-0965.
- Registration form is required in order to be placed on the waiting list.
- Date of submission will be noted on the registration form.
- Birth certificate and immunization records are required at this time.
3. Orientation Meeting at the School
- All students and parents are required to attend a presentation at the school that will outline the program offered at CAA.
- An interview will be conducted by school administration and staff to ensure parents and students have a clear understanding of the vision, mission, purpose and expectations surrounding students' learning expectations and parental involvement.
4. Student Audition (Year 4 Plus)
- Students must demonstrate an interest in one of the arts.
- Students in Year 4 and older must audition.
- The student may choose their art form - music, art, dance, drama or literary art.
- The audition is meant to reveal student willingness to perform and commitment to the school, rather than their proficiency level.
5. Student Standardized Testing
- Students will be required to take a standardized test to determine whether they are at grade level.
- Standardized testing will be administered at the school at no additional charge (It will be at the discretion of the administration as to whether a student who is not at grade level will be admitted. In order for this to occur, it must be determined that the child can benefit from the curriculum and resources available at CAA.)

7. Summer Arts Camp
- Summer arts camps will be available the week prior to school opening and is mandatory for all new students.
- Summer camp will touch on all five of the art forms and will act as an introduction to the arts prior to school opening.
- This program is offered on a cost-recovery basis - please check with the school office for details.
